Professional Experience: Terry has been a professional bassist for 30 years. As a recipient of an Individual Study Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, Terry lived in New York and studied under renowned jazz bassist and educator, Rufus Reid. Terry came to McNally Smith from Los Angeles where he studied with Bob Magnesson. His extensive performance credits in live performance, recording, television and film range from work with Linda Rondstadt, Gene Harris, Dewey Redman, Lee Konitz, Marlena Shaw, Jane Monheit, Roseanna Vitro, Freddy Hubbard, Terrell Stafford, Marc Copeland, Larry Goldings, David Benoit, Stanley Turrentine, David “Fathead” Newman, Billy Hart, Ray Bryant, Billy Higgins, Teddy Edwards, Steve Slagle and the great Billy Rodgers. Other Teaching Experience: Terry has written five bass method texts including The Bass: A Comprehensive Approach. Terry is in demand as a clinician and speaker all over the country. Awards and Honors: Terry’s two solo recordings on Songspeak Records were released to critical acclaim and received nominations for “Jazz Recording of the Year” and “Bassist of the Year.” Learn more about Terry by visiting his website here.

Professional Experience: Jeffrey Bailey is the newest member of the Bass Department at McNally Smith College. Jeffrey brings many experiences to the Bass Faculty. He has been a performer and producer as well as a composer. Jeffrey brings an impressive array of experience to the college. He has performed with some of the greats in contemporary music, including Jack McDuff, Terrell Stafford, Lori Line, Hannibal Peterson, Fred Ho, James Carter, and Eric Gravatt. Jeffrey has released two recordings with his original group, “Moveable Feast” and appears on other recordings by Twin Cities’ artists. He has also been awarded with two “Bassist of the Year” nominations from the Minnesota Music Awards. Other training: Study with Doug Nelson and James lute. Other teaching experience, private instructor for 10 years.

Faculty member - Charles Fletcher

Professional Experience: An accomplished electric bassist, Charles brings his 4-string, 5-string, and 6-string fretted and fretless bass talents to a wide variety of performances. He has worked with accomplished acts, including Jimmy Valentine, Lamont Cranston, Doug Maynard, Mick Sterling, and the TC Jammers, among others. Charles has also performed with regional and national jazz groups Northcoast and Glen Helgeson’s Axis Mundi.

Gary Raynor

Professional Experience: Gary’s diverse credits include working with Sammy Davis, Jr., the Count Basie Orchestra, Herb Ellis, and Debbie Duncan. He has performed with many touring shows, including Guys and Dolls, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Phantom of the Opera, Cats, The Lion King, and others. Gary also plays bass for the nationally-syndicated radio show, “A Prairie Home Companion.”

Formal Education:Advanced Diploma in Music Performance-Bass from Musictech College, working completing his Bachelors degree
General Education:Performing over 200 shows a year Travis can be seen in a multitude of musical settings including musical theater, jazz and pop country. Travis was one of the founding members of The Atlantis Quartet and their first record "Again Too Soon" received rave reviews both on a local and national level. Travis is currently working to develop a slap bass program for the bass department.

Professional Experience: Jay is a freelance performer and educator as well as the founder and president of Cartouche Records. He lends his talents to a broad range of projects, locally and internationally. A founding member of the group Moore by Four, he has also performed regularly with Ray Brown and Malachi Favors.
